Akshay Tritiya , the third lunar day of Shukla Paksha of Vaishaka month, is an auspicious day for both Hindus and Jains.It marks the day when the sun and the moon are believed to be at the height of their brightness.

For Jains it’s the day that commemorates the first Tirthankara, Rishabhanatha, ending his one-year asceticism by consuming sugarcane juice poured into his cupped hands. The Hindus believe it marks the start of Treta Yuga. Some also believe that Kubera attained the post of treasure on this day and that buying and worshiping gold pleases him.
